YELLOW DAYS WHAT'S IT ALL FOR?

Continuing his questioning look at the world, Yellow Days follows up ‘How Can I Love You?’, with another pondering alt-jazz track ‘What’s It All For?’ True to his bluesy, kaleidoscopic style, we hear limbered percussion, generous funk grooves, washed-out backing vocals, and George Van Den Broek’s distinct, crackled voice. From the subdued, laid-back beginnings of ‘What’s It All For?’, the track hits an upward stride at around one minute with heavier drums and psychedelic guitar arrangement,  providing an early look into the track’s development. One interpretation is that it proceeds into organised chaos - the instrumentation becomes denser, stranger and seemingly reflective of Yellow Days’ existential crisis state. As these thoughts on meaning become deeper, so does his musical expression. By the close of the song, we’re still left hanging on the question, “what’s it all for?”, and who knows, YD may have an answer for us in a future release. - Hannah Thacker
